Bagshot
Bagshot is a welcoming and vibrant village with a population of around 5000 residents. It is tucked away in the north west corner of Surrey and is 30 miles south west of London. The area is popular with families due to excellent amenities, schools and plenty of leisure opportunities. It is a place many happily call home.
History of Bagshot
Originally of Saxon origin, Bagshot was once a popular rest stop for many on the long journey between Southampton to London.
Bagshot truly formed after the formation of The Great West Road in the late 16th century. The road was the main link between London and the West Country, which is now the A30. For this reason, Bagshot became a popular stop-over for coaches.
Today, Bagshot is home to Edward and Sophie, Earl and Countess of Wessex. They live at the wonderful Bagshot Park, an incredible 17th century hunting lodge situated in the countryside on the outskirts of the village. The property has been in royal hands since the Stuart and Tudor dynasties.
Bagshot train station and transport
Although formed of just two platforms, Bagshot railway station is well connected. Services operate between Ascot and Guildford (via Aldershot) every half an hour Monday to Saturday and every hour on Sundays.
Bagshot has strong road links too, being just a stone’s throw from the M3. This means London and Southampton are within easy reach, as are the A30 and A322 which give great access to Reading and Basingstoke.
